We asked five kinds of AI agent to find an OTC analgesic on bayer.com for a three-day tension headache with neck strain, then reach a purchase path. The plain reader got an Akamai 403 with a bot-registration page. The coding agent got the same 403 via curl. The browser reached aspirin.de, navigated to Spannungskopfschmerzen content, and confirmed Aspirin Forte 1000mg as the right product, in the Pflichttext footer only. Forte has no product page, no slider card, no Jetzt-kaufen button. The pharmacy handoff via px-reach.de works, but only for the Aspirin Tablette 500mg variant on its own card.

Scope. This is one OTC product on one consumer surface. Bayer Consumer Health runs 150+ brands across analgesics, dermatology, digestive health, supplements, and allergy, each with its own product-page architecture and pharmacy path.

Diagnosis

On consumer healthcare, Bayer is not lacking commerce infrastructure, px-reach.de carries the pharmacy handoff for the Tablette. It lacks an agent-readable product page for the variant that actually matches the indication. An agent that correctly identifies Forte 1000mg for tension headache, off the Spannungskopfschmerzen page, cannot buy it because Forte has no slider card, no /aspirin-forte URL, no Jetzt-kaufen button. The bridge between content (right product surfaced) and commerce (handoff exists for one product) is absent for the one product that closes the task.

What changes the outcome

The fix is not redesigning aspirin.de. It is a parallel agent-readable surface for the Consumer-Health portfolio: Reference Pages per OTC variant carrying the indication-to-dosing-to-pharmacy bridge in plain HTML, Answer Pages for the questions a buyer asks at the Apothekenfrage moment ("Welches Mittel bei X?"), an Evidence Layer so an agent can confirm an indication match without parsing the legal Pflichttext.

The proof is not a new website. It is plain readers and coding agents extracting "Forte 1000mg, Spannungskopfschmerz, dosed 1-2 tablets to a max of 6/day, Apotheke X" directly, and a browser agent reaching a working purchase path for the variant the indication picks, re-measured each wave.

How the score was produced.

Discoverability is audit-pipeline-derived. 3-provider sample (openai, perplexity, anthropic), 3 query variants per task, 2 runs per variant · 18 valid datapoints scored against a five-state handoff cascade. [S1]

AI Usability is derived from the access-profile above (usability-derivation/v1): how far the best agent reached (close state) modulated by how many agent classes succeeded. The per-class profile is the truth; the score is a reproducible summary of it, not a separate rating. Fleet phases (HTTP / Coding / Browser / ACT) produce the profile. [S2]
